We place extensive emphasize on education in proper training techniques and practices. With our guidance and knowledge transfer, you can identify and overcome your personal limiters to reach your peak of performance. Coaching is a relationship between athlete and coach. Compatibility and shared understanding of philosophy and goals are extremely important. We offer four coaches of varied backgrounds and athletic experiences so you can find the coaching relationship that is right for you. You will build your relationship with one of us, but you are also tapping into the combined knowledge of all of us.
Coaching Philosophy We believe your athletic success comes from training which is consistent, purposeful, “whole-athlete” focused, and balanced with the other callings in your life. We want you to reach your peak on race day and enjoy the journey along the way. Consistency - Improvement comes from doing the work day-in and day-out for weeks and months at a time. There are no shortcuts. Our coaching ensures that you are doing the right kind of work, and the right amount of it, so that you can keep improving. We also help you keep any eye on the other factors which can disrupt consistency, such as fatigue, injury, and burnout. Purposeful - The training you do on any given day is guided by your goals and by where you are in your season. We take a loosely periodized approach to your training, recognizing that different skills and energy systems should be emphasized in different phases across your season. Within each of these phases we will incorporate workouts for all three disciplines in addition to strength/flexibility training and most importantly rest/recovery. “Whole-Athlete” Focused - The “whole-athlete” is physically balanced, injury-free, well rested, nutritionally sound, and mentally confident. Weaknesses in any of these factors will limit overall performance. While the bulk of your training will be sport specific - swimming, biking, and running - we will also include: muscular strength and flexibility training to address physical imbalances and injuries; intentional recovery periods to allow physical adaptation to training; nutritional advice; and mental skills work. Balance - Keeping training in balance with the rest of your life commitments is integral to loving this sport and sticking with it. Athletes that do not recognize this harmony can easily become stressed, over-trained, burned out, and unmotivated. We know that training/life balance is a constantly moving target. Our job is to set you up with a balanced plan, watch out for the subtle indicators of too much stress, and help you adapt and re-balance.
